Passionate water skiers consider the ski site
at Okeeheelee Park to be among the world's best. These five
interconnected lakes were designed by skiers for training and
competition. Four of the five lakes feature slalom courses.
The courses run north-south and east-west, allowing skiers to
choose from most favorable to least favorable wind and sun
conditions. The fifth lake includes a jump ramp and
wakeboarding area. The site also accommodates tricking,
barefooting and kneeboarding.
What began as the dream of a few avid
water skiers in 1975 has turned into a nationally recognized
site for competitive water skiing. The U.S. Water Ski
Nationals have been held at Okeeheelee Park nine times and the
World Water Ski Championships were held in the park in 1989,
hosted by the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches. The site holds
about five local tournaments per year.
